Chengdu, Day 6

The trip to 'panda base' was an eye opening experience on how China is trying hard to preserve it's natural heritage by ensuring the continued existence of the Giant Pandas.  Being only native to this part of the world, the Giant Panda is really one of the natural treasures of China, being that it's the only country that has them. I was not convinced of China's enthusiathism in the panda breeding programme and concluded that it was only a small project done by the local. However, after coming here, I realise that my preception was an ameture one and was totally far from the truth.

Going to the historic temple here in Chengdu is one of the best cultural exchange that I have experienced. Compared to the many cultural trips in Singapore, the trip here in China is a more indepth look onto the Chinese culture as it brings us to the original sights and sounds of historic China. Going from room to room, I come face-to-face with the kings and high officials of olden times. I was even given the opportunity to ador myself with traditional warrior armor of China. A performance using traditional instruments was also performed for the crowd. This shows that even in the ever growing globalisation of China, culural heritages are still being preserved by the young to carry on the traditions of their forefathers.

The trip to the Poet's house was not only a treat to the eyes but was also an educational journey into the life of one of the most highly revered poets in all of chinese history. The trip arounf the courtyards and even seeing the footstones of where his house once stood was another indepth look inti China;s cultural heritage and how they are striving to retain the past while also looking foward to the future.
